Meal Makers Frequently
Asked Questions |
The following are frequently
asked questions regarding the LM Meal Maker Program.
Hopefully this will help you understand the program if you are
thinking about receiving meals or volunteering. If you have
additional questions or need more information, please don’t
hesitate to ask!
|
|
1. |
What kind of meal should I cook?
You will receive information about the family’s preferences
and allergies when you volunteer to cook on one of the
requested dates. You will also be in contact with other meal
makers to find out what meal they will be making for the same
mom in need. Please assemble a complete and balanced meal that
is enough for the entire family. Some ideas:
- Chicken and rice
casserole, broccoli, rolls, brownies
- Chili or soup, bagged
salad, bread, cookies
- Barbeque chicken or
beef, green beans, baked potatoes, fruit salad
- Spaghetti and
meatballs, bagged salad, bread, pint of ice cream
- Short on time ---
rotisserie chicken from the deli, bagged salad, loaf of
bread, pint of ice cream or even take out from a local
restaurant.

2. |
How do I get my pans back?
Please use disposable plastic ware, foil pans, and zip lock
bags if possible. It’s easier if the mom doesn’t have to worry
about returning pans. |
|
3. |
Does the meal have to be cooked and hot when I deliver it?
We encourage the meal to be cooked and hot upon delivery so
the mom can just set it on the table and serve. However, if
the drop off time doesn’t work out for the mom in need or the
mom delivering, then bringing easy warming instructions should
be fine. |
|
4. |
Does the meal have to be homemade?
No. It is acceptable to purchase ready-to-eat items at the
store and assemble a meal. If you are bringing in take-out
food, please make sure it’s okay with the mom in need and that
it is still a well balanced meal, not fast food. |
|
5. |
How do I register to get meals?
Just email our meal making coordinator
and request a meal form. She will then send it to you via
email and once you return it to her, she’ll set up your meals.
She does ask that you list specific dates needed, as it helps
to find meal makers. |
|
6. |
I’m a vegetarian; can I make a vegetarian meal?
Please let your mom in need know, but new moms and moms in
need are appreciative of any nutritious, balanced meal that
they don’t have to make themselves! |
|
7. |
How often do I have to cook a meal if I’m on the volunteer
list?
You determine how often you can help (once a month, once a
quarter, etc.). If you can make a meal on one of the requested
dates, respond to the email with which dates you are
available. If you can’t help on any of the dates, just don’t
respond to the mass email. |
|
8. |
How much time do I need to give the meal making coordinator
to set up meals?
While the more time, the better, it is understood that things
happen and a moment’s notice is all that is given. If you know
you’re having a baby, please try to email your meal making
coordinator prior to your delivery so she is aware you’ll be
needing meals. If you are in need of meals for a death or
illness in the family, then just let your meal making
coordinator know as soon as you can and she’ll do her best to
get the meals set up right away. |
|
9. |
I work, is there a way to drop off a meal early or late?
Yes! The key is to communicate with the mom and arrange for a
convenient drop off time that works for both of you. Please
attach reheating instructions if the meal will need to be
reheated before it is served. |
|
10. |
Do I have to be a volunteer in order to receive meals?
No! The program is welcome to all registered members of LM.
We do encourage moms who have received meals to volunteer
after they are feeling better and are up and around. |
